Today I had to miss my Chinese class to go to training for Vector Marketing. I'll be missing class tomorrow, too, but I'll be studying my butt off nonetheless. I'm excited and scared about starting work. I hope it'll be fun? The language lab at the community college is awesome! It's a computer lab and stuff... yeah. I like it. Monday morning I'm gonna go to tutoring and see what it's like. For some reason, I'm really passionate about learning this material really well. I get psyched as I learn more and more. It seems like I will be working very hard in the next 5 weeks or so.. I might barely have time to have free time, but I'm arranging it that way. Otherwise I tend to get way too depressed way too quickly (as this was what happened in the past month). Today, I was walking past a bus, and just when the bus took off, a guy poked his head out of the window, stared right into my eyes, and yelled, "F*ck you!" posted by Melike at 22:55
knives
This week I've been so busy without ever knowing why. Time flies! Chinese class is fun. For the first three chapters, we can write the homework in Pinyin (romanized form), but since I wanted to be hardcore, I decided to do it with the characters. Of course, that meant I had to learn how to write 50+ characters first. Our workbook shows the order of brushstrokes, and I wrote out each of them 14 times. By the time I was done writing my homework, it was 2:30 am. Four hours! I was burnt out, but now I can write quite a few of them from memory, and it isn't even expected of us. I got home really late last night, because I had an interview. A company called Vector Marketing sent me a letter the other day saying they had summer jobs available, so I expressed interest. First we went through a "pre-screening" interview, then a group interview where they spent about an hour explaining the job to us. We are going to make appointments with customers and sell them knives. The products are very good and the job has flexible hours and other benefits. I need to be more outgoing anyway, so it'll be good for me. I'm really tired and it's only going to get worse, but that's okay. I like to drown myself in work when I don't feel like talking to anybody. posted by Melike at 01:00

celebrity sighting
Today, while I was biking home, a couple of girls screamed, "MELIKE!!!" from a passing car. When I turned around, I could only see their arms waving frantically at me and I waved back. Ah, Cassie and Aileen, if only I had your numbers! Too bad you don't read this website so I'm just talking to myself I guess. posted by Melike at 03:01
Chinese 1
Today I started taking Chinese classes at the local community college. It's 3 hours a day, 5 days a week for 6 weeks. The teacher's rather funny and Chinese is interesting. We spent the first day learning how to say pretty much all the possible syllables. There are about 400 syllables and 4 different intonations for each syllable. But that's nothing, the Cantonese dialect has 11! I can't even begin to understand that. We didn't even learn how to say "Hi" or "What is your name?" Hopefully we'll be learning that tomorrow. posted by Melike at 01:28

yay!!
Finally, I put up the photos I've taken in the past year. Take a look! I hope you like them, because I've been sitting here organizing/resizing them for the past 5 hours. By the way, happy father's day. posted by Melike at 20:51
