Last night, Charles, Aimee, and I went to Tom's house. Tom had picked two madrigals, one French and one in Spanish, to rehearse that night. First we read through it on 'la', then worked out the kinks, then added words. It sounded pretty good! We practiced for two hours straight without even noticing. Then, it was past Charles's bedtime so we broke up for the night (it was 9:30, seriously). Haha. We're gonna meet up again tomorrow night. My mom and I went to Bed Bath and Beyond tonight, and while we were waiting in line, I was looking at the paintings and pictures that were hanging on the wall.. There were some with Chinese characters and a small translation underneath (like "Meditation" and "Joy" and such), and I recognized some radicals in the characters (heart and field). About 80% of Chinese characters are pictophonetic compound characters, which means they are composed of two characters; one usually hints at the meaning, and the other hints at the pronunciation. The one whose radicals I recognized was "field" (田)with "heart" (心) underneath it. It was soo cool. I still have to learn quite a bit of characters to be able to understand random things I see in stores, though. posted by Melike at 23:47

Last night I figured out how to write Chinese on my computer. It's actually quite amazing. I wish I knew more things to say so I'd write paragraphs. 现在二十三点五分。 (Right now it's 11:05 pm.) My goal is to learn Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu this summer. I've been practicing a bit, but I need to practice a whole lot more. So it should follow that I'm going to increase my practice times, hopefully. posted by Melike at 02:10

Hey guys, I quit my job a little while ago. I decided I'd rather practice piano, read books, and go out with friends than make my mom drive me all over town just so I can show people knives. It was fun but I don't have any time to even do my Chinese homework so I lose sleep time. The only time I'm allowed to lose sleep time is during the school year, duh. Everybody knows that. So I'm gonna sleep for the next 11 hours. I'll be writing here more often. posted by Melike at 00:31

Yesterday, I was riding my bike to school on the sidewalk, and suddenly noticed that I was about to run straight into a spider that was dangling from a tree/bush. Before I knew it, I had thrown myself off to the side, onto the sidewalk. I got up quickly and was thankful that nobody saw! posted by Melike at 21:00

Because of this knife-selling job, I am forced to call people and this is good, whether or not I sell them knives. Today I saw Lawson and Tom (and Kat, I just met her today), and Aimee! Tomorrow I'll be seeing Aileen. She was screaming on the phone (from happiness) when I called her. posted by Melike at 04:50

I finished my training for Cutco this afternoon, and was in Amy's mom's house a half hour later for an appointment. She made me go through every single item, then decided to buy a single table knife. It was good practice for me, though, because it was really laid back and I felt so comfortable. Then, my second and last appointment was with my mom when I got home. I did the demo in English (because we were supposed to read off the manual), even though we never speak English at home so it was a little awkward at first. (When she asked me about the prices and stuff, I switched to Turkish though.) It took her two hours to decide on four knives!! It was fun, though. I'm a little nervous about tomorrow because I know these people a little less well, but I'm sure they'll be nice to me when I tell them that I just started. :) I am dead tired..! Summer's finally beginning to get fun. posted by Melike at 02:14
